Study Highlights Co-Resistance in Isoniazid-Resistant Tuberculosis at a Thai Tertiary Care Hospital
A recent study conducted at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital sheds light on co-resistance patterns in isoniazid-resistant tuberculosis (Hr-TB). Among 144 Hr-TB cases, researchers found that while most isolates showed susceptibility to recommended treatments, some exhibited co-resistance to drugs like pyrazinamide, levofloxacin, and ethambutol. Whole-genome sequencing revealed key mutations associated with drug resistance, providing valuable insights for tailoring treatment regimens. The findings highlight the importance of combining phenotypic and genotypic testing methods to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of drug-resistant TB.
This research underscores the ongoing need for precision diagnostics and personalized approaches to combat tuberculosis in high-burden countries like Thailand.
