Furthermore, we had the privilege of Douglas Golenbock, M.D., Professor of Medicine, Microbiology, and Physiological Systems, and Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Immunology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, delivered an enlightening lecture on the following topic: Interferon-epsilon is an estrogen-dependent type I interferon that is uniquely exploited by Neisseria gonorrhoeae via its effects on sialic acid metabolism
